Fibre damage on an Auckland site: information to prepare

Use this as an information checklist
This guide helps builders, property developers, civil contractors and site managers prepare information for the responsible network owner and service provider. It is a planning reference, not a safe-work method, repair instruction or confirmation that a technician will attend.
If people are in immediate danger or need emergency assistance, call 111 and follow emergency-service and site instructions. Use current official guidance and the site's approved procedures for the incident response.
Prepare the information you already have
A useful initial summary identifies the site address, a safe callback contact, when the issue was noticed, the affected connections or business operations, and any known asset owner or existing reference number. Include known access or induction requirements.
Distinguish what has been reported from what has been confirmed. An unknown cable owner or an untested connection should stay recorded as unknown. Do not collect additional information by carrying out an inspection or repair for the purpose of completing this checklist.
Keep passwords, access codes and sensitive customer information out of a general website enquiry. Agree an appropriate channel before sharing detailed records or photographs; this guide does not imply that an online form accepts uploads.
Use the network owner's reporting pathway
A cable being inside a site boundary does not establish who owns it or who may work on it. Carrier-owned assets follow the owner's authorised reporting and repair process; private work also needs the appropriate authority and agreed scope.
For suspected Chorus network damage, its published contractor guidance lists 0800 463 896, option 2, and an online reporting route. Use the current official instructions. Contacting Bestcomm does not replace notifying the asset owner or authorise repair of carrier equipment.
Keep a request separate from confirmed attendance
Bestcomm's existing network emergency service is scoped to Greater Auckland. Its service page explains the assessment and attendance conditions. An online request starts assessment and callback; it does not confirm attendance or an ETA.
Use the existing Service 10 page for the current response pathway, or call the published Bestcomm number, 0800 937 622. Planned connectivity and resilience work is a separate discussion with its own agreed scope.
Clarify the handover
Ask what work was authorised, what was completed, which party performed each part, and what remains outstanding. Separate a temporary measure from permanent work. Any result should identify what was checked and the limits of that check.
Confirm which records are included in the engagement and how any later work will be scoped. This guide describes useful questions; it does not claim that a particular incident, repair, attendance time or customer outcome has occurred.
